TOGETHER read the book and the scripture.
INDIVIDUALLY take notes in your journal on what stands out.

Philippians 1:4-6 (NIV) In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

1 John 2:27 (NIV) As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit—just as it has taught you, remain in him.

Acts 2:44-47 (NIV) All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

Matthew 28:18-20 (NIV) Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

TOGETHER pray for one another.

INDIVIDUALLY answer the questions in your journal - process your notes and pray.

  • Maturing in our faith is a process. What are the tools available to us to ensure we keep growing as believers?

  • Where do the greatest challenges come from today in maintaining our witness and faith?

EXTRA READING:

Francis of Assisi (1182 - 1226) was born to a merchant family. As a young man, he was attracted to adventure and moved by romantic tales of knights. When he himself became a knight, Francis met a leper while riding through the countryside. Overwhelmed by a divine impulse, Francis dismounted his horse, shared his coat with the leper, and kissed the man’s diseased face. Captivated by the experience, Francis began to re-imagine his life in light of the gospel, renouncing his selfish desires and his father’s wealth. Abeggar for Christ’s sake. Francis inspired thousands to walk away from worldly success and join his movement of friars who sought to renew the church in their day.

For reference to both the story from Everyone a Witness and the story of Francis of Assisi radically changing his life here is a link to Changes (1971) by English singer-songwriter David Bowie (1947 - 2016)

PRAYER:
Lord, your church is such that when one member of the body fails, the whole body suffers. Help us encourage one another in faith so that, working together, we might become a unified body that goes into the world to proclaim the good news. Amen.
